  • Scientists from Nagoya University in Japan have discovered how to diminish and even eliminate anger during stressful situations. This is new innovation in anger management.  Here are some key facts:
  • Previous anger management methods that have been effective include:
  1. Take deep breaths
  2. Go for a run
  3. Scream into a pillow
  • Nagoya University research study has resulted in a new & innovative approach to dissipating feelings of anger from insults, slights, setbacks and other hurtful situations:
  1. Participants were asked to write an opinion piece on a social issue
  2. They received negative comments on what they wrote
  3. Then they were asked to write down their feelings about the insulting comments they received
  4. One group kept their written notes; the other threw-out their written notes
  5. Net result:  while all were angry, those who threw out their notes, eliminated their anger almost entirely and the other group didn't
  • Upshot:  Write down what just made you furious and then throw the paper out.  See if it works.
  • The scientists found there is something therapeutic about dismissing anger by materializing it in writing and then throwing it away
  • Real science you can use!
