SWEDEN'S ELECTRONIC SOIL INCREASES CROP GROWTH
Source: Linkoping University & Stock
- Swedish scientists have developed electrically conductive soil that in some cases increases seedling growth by 50%. Here's what we know:
- Researchers are stimulating the root system of plants electrically
- They've engineered electrically conductive soil for hydroponics, a soilless cultivation method
- Hydroponics could help address food security issues in challenging environments and in those with little arable land
- Hydroponics will also enable food growth in urban environments
- Key bottom-line points from this new research:
- Barley seedlings grown in conductive soil grew up to 50% more in 15 days when their roots were stimulated electrically
- Plants grew without soil using water and nutrients
- Little water is needed as water is recirculated in a closed system
- Electrical stimulation fosters the increased growth rate
- Linkoping University researchers in Sweden used low voltage/low energy amounts to create the electronic soil
- Electronic soil may not solve global food security issues but it can most assuredly help
- For me, this is innovative food for thought.
REVO ZERO'S NEW HYDROGEN ENERGY MINI-VAN
- Virginia-based startup Revo Zero has developed a hydrogen-powered minivan with a unique powertrain. Here are some key facts:
- Plug-in fuel cell powertrain that combines EV battery tech with hydrogen fuel cell technology
- Promised range of 700 miles on a charge
- Big distinctions: the range and the traditional minivan backdoors but with front doors that slide out and forward
- 3 rows of seats
- Panoramic glass roof
- Sleek-looking, green minivan.
